How This Helps You Learn
There's a real difference between knowing how to calculate 17² and being able to do it in under 3 seconds without thinking. Most Quant preparation only builds the first skill. This drill is built for the second:
- Automaticity frees up your working memory. If you have to consciously calculate 8 × 7 mid-problem, you have less mental capacity left for the actual multi-step question around it. Drilling tables, squares, and cubes until they're instant means your brain can focus entirely on the harder parts of a Quant problem.
- Sectional timing makes speed non-optional. With SSC's per-section time limits, a few seconds saved on basic arithmetic across 25 questions adds up to real extra time for the questions that actually need careful thought.
- Immediate feedback corrects errors before they become habits. Typing an answer and seeing instantly whether you're right (and what the correct answer was if not) is far more effective than practicing from a worksheet and checking answers at the end — mistakes get caught and fixed in the moment, not after they've been repeated ten times.
